The big Y catfish is the result of cross-breeding between two of Thailand’s most well known catfish, the Giant Mekong and the Iridiscent Shark. They are not always easily recognisable, but the angler’s attention is drawn to the placement of the eyes and the pronounced Y shaped caudal fin – it’s not quite a sawai, and it’s not quite a pla buk.
Fishing for these unusual fish is relatively straightforward: pellet, boilies, bread and corn all ledgered with a lam feeder towards the deeper areas of the lake produces the best results.
